India continued: Saris, Swaras & Santosha
Happy New Year! I was fortunate to welcome the new year (& decade) in India, where I'm midway through a three-month visit. The time in Mysore has been rich in inspiration & learning: I've found several other local musicians and yoga student/musicians with whom to jam and play, performed at a Christmas brunch and party (wearing my first sari!), and am continuing my Carnatic voice lessons with Mysore V. Amba Prasad.
I've also initiated a new writing project and have been facilitating a writing practice group with a rotating cast of new and seasoned writers. It's truly been a gift to have this time to soak in new information and see what the muse brings while practicing at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute
.

Some (other) highlights have included listening in on an impromptu jam with Bansuri master Ravi Shankar Mishra and tabla player Arup Sen Gupta, a yoga conference featuring Krishnamcharya student and author A. G. Mohan
, and distributing Christmas gifts to the kids at Operation Shanti, There have been some seriously magical moments where I have had to pinch myself to remind myself that I'm here and this is really happening.
January is calling for more of the same as well as at least one gig here in Mysore on January 18th when I'll be sharing the bill with Classical singer Bo Chang (New York). Between us, I think we cover the spectrum of American music!

Check the calendar for more information as I expect to be adding more dates.
Wishing you and yours WELL.
Love, Deborah
